Marble Fun

Marbles can be a ton of fun and are an important component in many bored games. You can use them to play Chinese checkers or to try to see how many of your components marbles you can knock out of a playing field. They can be a little tricky to use at first, but with some practice you can become an excellent shooter in no time. Plus they are great for socializing because they can bring a lot of people into play one game at once and most games with marbles are easy enough that almost anyone can learn to be great at them. An added bonus is that playing games where you have to shoot the marbles is great for hand eye corrdination. So take put down the handheld game for a minute and pick up some marbles.

Some people even collect marbles because of the way they look. Many glass marbles are extremely beautiful with mesmerizing designs inside. These are often created by using different colors of glass when making the marbles. When you collect marbles you will want to make sure you like the design and that they are well made and perfectly round. If they are not perfectly round they will not roll right. Also, if you find any cracks or chips in the surface (which can result from hitting them on another hard surface) they will not roll right and could break further. You also will have a selection of different sizes. There are some large beautiful marbles and some small marbles that are also pretty. It is simply a matter of preference and need.

It is a good idea to check the value of your marbles. Many marbles (while still fun) are very inexpensive and not worth a ton. You can find them at antique stores, garage sales, or toy stores. However, some marbles are collectibles and might be worth a pretty penny. Marbles have been around forever, so it is not surprising that some specialty marbles have been made. If you have reason to believe this might be the case for you, you should have them checked out and the value determined.

One finally thing you may want to consider is a safty concern. Like all pretty objects, children may be very attracted to marbles. They roll and are smooth to the touch, which can be fun. However, if you have small children you should not let them use marbles until you feel they are old enough to not put them in their mouth. Besides picking up tons of germs from rolling over various surfaces, your child could swallow and chock on a marble. So be sure to provide enough supervision to small children to keep them safe. It can be nice to get your child a new childrens game or toy but make sure you read all warning lables that come with them before handing them over to you children. When that is taken care of everyone can have a great time.

You should also not use marbles for any unintended use that might be dangerous. An example of a dangerous unintended use would be using marbles in place of pie weights. Pie weights are ceramic where as most marbles are glass. If you put glass in any situation where it can reach such a high temperature it can be dangerous because they can explode
