SPACEOPOLY
INSTRUCTIONS
Spaceopoly is a revised and simplified edition of the game Solarquest
and used
by permission.
Copyright 1997 Valen Brost Game Co.
YOUR MISSION
Travel through the solar system, buying properties, charging rent,
and
building monopolies within individual planetary systems while
trying to
complete an assigned mission. If you are first to complete your
assigned
mission, or build the greatest financial empire and survive the
perils of
space travel to become the last player on the board, you win.
CONTENTS
Game board
4 Spaceships
20 Mission Cards
36 Deed Cards
2 Dice
36 laser tokens
Federons (interplanetary currency)
GETTING READY TO PLAY
1. Each player selects a spaceship playing piece and places it
on Earth.
2. One player will be the Federation Banker. The Banker gives
each player:
1 at $10
1 at $50
1 at $100
1 at $500
1 at $1000
1 laser token
3. The Mission Cards are shuffled and placed in a pile, face down
on the Game
board near Earth. Each player draws 1 Mission Card, secretly reads
the card
and places it face down on the playing surface near their money
piles.
4. Each player rolls the dice. The highest roller will begin play.
Play
will then pass to the left.
A BRIEFING - HOW THE GAME IS PLAYED
1. Each player in turn rolls the dice and blasts off from Earth,
moving along
the flight path toward Mercury. White arrows indicate the direction
of
travel. White arrows do not count as a space and you cannot land
on them.
2. When a player lands on an unowned planet, moon, or Fuel Dock
that player
may buy it.
3. When a player lands on a property owned by another player,
that player must
pay rent or a refueling fee listed on the deed card. This charge
is based on
the number of properties the player owns within the planetary
group.
4. A player must follow instructions on the Game board for each
space they
land on unless they have rolled doubles and choose to bypass the
location.
5. A player is out of the game if the player is:
- declared bankrupt
- the players ship is totally disabled from an incoming
laser beam
6. The winner is the first player to complete their mission or
the last player
on the board, or if a time limit is set, the player with the most
assets.
WHAT IF I ROLL DOUBLES?
When doubles are rolled, you collet $100 Federons and have the
chance to move
and roll again. When the ship is moved you have the option of
landing on the
last space the move places you or bypassing it.
1. If you choose to land on the space, all
requirements of regular game play
apply before the dice may be rolled again.
2. If you choose to bypass the location, the spaceship is placed
to the side
of the space, and you roll again and move. You may not bypass
a black dot.
Lasers may be fired while bypassing a location.
BLACK DOTS
Although they count as spaces, you cannot land on black dots.
The black dots
represent the gravitational pull of a planet. This pull must be
overcome
before you may leave the planetary system.
If the number you roll will not take
you beyond the dots you must continue
to orbit the planet. You must leave orbit if you are able to do
so.
Earth and Venus do not have orbit patterns. If you cannot
move beyond the
black dots next to the planet, you must go back one space and
land on the
planet itself.
BLUE DOTS
You are now drifting in space. If there are directions for that
space you
must follow them.
PLANETS OR MOONS
You may buy the property, if it is unowned, for the amount on
the deed card.
The more properties you own within a planetary group, the higher
the rent.
FUEL DOCKS
You may buy the property, if it is unowned, for the amount on
the deed card.
The four Fuel Docks form one property group. The more docks you
own, the
higher the fee.
FEDERATION STATIONS
Federation Stations are not for sale because they are owned by
the Federation
League. When landing you may collect a fee and/or Laser Token,
which is noted
on the game board.
EARTH
Each time you pass or land on Earth, either by roll of the dice
or by
instructions to advance, you collect $500 Federons from the bank.
Each time
you land on Earth you may exchange your Mission Card for a new
Mission Card.
To exchange your card, draw the next Mission Card on top of the
pile and
return the Mission Card you are exchanging to the bottom of the
pile.
AMALTHEA
You have a choice whether to land on Amalthea or to continue to
orbit Jupiter
and land on the blue dot. If you choose to land on Amalthea, you
must remain
there until you roll a 5 or greater. If another player owns Amalthea,
additional rent is payed each time less than a 5 is rolled.
HOW DO I BUY PROPERTY?
1. If you land on an unowned planet, moon, or Fuel Dock, you may
but it for
the price on the deed card. The money is paid to the bank.
2. All deed cards are color-coded by the property group (for example,
all
properties within the Jupiter system have orange color bands on
the deed
cards). The more properties you own within a group, the higher
the rent.
3. Fuel Docks from their own property group and do not belong
to a specific
planetary system.
4. If you are directed on the board to have the option of collecting
an
unowned property, and all the properties are owned, collect $500
instead.
HOW AND WHEN DO I PAY RENT?
Any player who lands on a property owned by another player must
pay the owner
rent or a refueling fee. The amount is determined as follows:
1. The owner adds up the number of properties he/she owns within
that property
group and finds the number under the PROPERTIES OWNED column of
the deed card.
2. The owner then checks the figure directly
to the right to determine the
rent. For example, if you land on Ganymede and the owner also
owns Io and
Amalthea, thats three total properties within Jupiter. Rent
would be $400
Federons. If only Ganymede was owned, the charge would be $140
Federons.
3. If the property landed on is a Fuel Dock, the player who landed
on the Fuel
Dock rolls the dice again to determine the fee. The fee equals
the number
rolled on the dice times the number in the second column corresponding
to the
number of the Fuel Docks the owner owns.
4. Rent is not paid if the property is unowned.
MAY I SELL OR TRADE PROPERTIES?
1. If you owe another player money, you can not sell or trade
properties
except to the player money is owed to. The properties are then
valued at the
price indicated on the deed card.
2. If you do not owe another player money, you may sell or trade
properties to
other players at any time and for any price you wish during the
game.
3. Properties may not be sold or traded back to the Federation
unless you are
directed on the board to pay the bank money and you do not have
enough money.
In that case, you may only turn in enough properties to pay off
the debt.
LASER BATTLES
When a players ship is within one space of an opponent,
lasers may be fired
at that opponent. A player may fire at more than one opponent
at a time, as
long as the opponents are at the same location. Lasers may be
fired at any
time during a players turn. Lasers require a laser token.
A player may
continue to fire lasers until they run out of laser tokens. When
a player is
directed to fire a laser on the game board, they do not expend
a laser token.
Lasers may not be fired from Earth or towards a player located
on Earth. The
number of laser shots per laser token depends on the distance
of the target.
DISTANCE ................NUMBER OF SHOTS
PER LASER TOKEN
same space ...............2
1...................................1
To fire a laser beam, the player states
out loud that they are firing a laser
and then rolls the dice.
NOTE: The player must state that they are
firing a laser before rolling the
dice!
1. If the player rolls doubles, the laser
has broken through the opposing
force field(s) and damaged the ship(s). The opponent(s) pays the
player 100
Federons times the number rolled for repairs.
2. If the player rolls a 12 (i.e., double sixes), the laser has
totally
disabled the opposing ship(s) and the loser(s) is/are out of the
game. The
victorious player who rolled the 12 takes over all money, property
and lasers
held by the loser(s).
3. If doubles are not rolled, the laser has not done any damage,
and play
continues. The laser tokens expended are returned to the bank/Federation.
HOW DO I LOSE THE GAME?
1. Bankruptcy - If you cannot pay a dept with cash on hand you
must begin
turning over properties to the opponent the debt is owed until
the debt paid
in full. You may choose which properties to turn over. The properties
are
worth the price indicated on the deed card. If you cannot pay
off the debt in
full, you are out of the game.
2. Totally Disabled by Laser Fire - If an opponent fires a laser
at your ship
and rolls 12 (i.e., double sixes), your ship is totally disabled
and you are
out of the game. Your attacker wins all of your money and property.
Exception: If you hold the Invented a new force field
mission card you
survive the attack and automatically win the game!
HOW DO I WIN THE GAME?
1. Mission Card - If you are the first player to complete your
Mission Card
(including ending up on a location required on the card) you automatically
win
the game!
2. Last on the Board - If you are the last player on the board,
you win the
game.
3. Laser - If you are the last player remaining in the game because
of a
double 6 laser shot, you win the game.
4. Most Assets - If there is a time limit, the player who has
the most assets
wins. Assets include Federons and the face value of all deed cards
owned.
