| | Remembering Gettysburg of the Civil war | | The Civil war is such an important part of our history
that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to specifically remember those that died in a Civil war in our own country battling for what they believed in.
So many men fought to keep the country together, so many fought for the right to have 2 seperate 'America's', but to each and every person who fought in a battle and one of the critical battles of the war, while it did NOT end the war was the Battle of Gettysburg,
So my hats to the men who fought for what htey believed in, and the men who fought to keep this country together.
Its a Piece of American...
So this Memorial Day Week I can't help think of other Heros's that have fought to keep us together, and those who dared to stand up for what they believed in.

| | Frank & Jessie James were in the Civil War, in Bio TV! | | Wow! I was amazed to see this biography. Only after the war did they start robbing banks and later trains...I thought they were just bank robbers! They began as a gang of 14 and found that this was too much...the dividing of the $$$ and the organizational leadership was always an issue and caused many arguments between gang members.
They outlasted most gangs of their time but their fate was the same.
Oh yeah I was surprised to learn that they were fathers and had wives and according to this report they were actually good fathers to their children and their wives and family and did not involve them at all in their "missions".
Very interesting--who knows more of the James gang?
Would love to hear your take on them.
Thanks myLotters!

| | Shame on You, Charlie Gibson | | In Sarah Palin's recent interview with Charles Gibson, he misquoted some remarks Palin made at her church in asking the congregants to pray about the Iraq war. Gibson claimed she said the soldiers are on a mission from God. He had taken her comments completely out of context and when she explained she was speaking as Lincoln had, when he admonished people to pray about the Civil War in the same way she was admonishing the people in that congregation to pray about the Iraq war. Here is a transcript of the comments he was "citing" in the interview.” Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending[U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God,” she exhorted the congregants. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.”I say Palin's comments were completely appropriate and she was not intending to say that the war in Iraq is God's doing. She was asking for them to pray that God will give wisdom to our leaders and direction to the war. What do you think? | |
| | Well, Ike was good for something | | Seems Ike had uncovered more of this mystery ship that was buried for many years in Alabama. Here is the link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080920/ap_on_re_us/ike_mystery_shipIt would be interesting to see if it was a civil war ship or a 1933 schooner.. | |
| | Earth's First Audio Recording in 1860: Au Claire de la Lune | | I found this earlier today, and other clips like this yesterday, but strangely, Edison was NOT the first person to invent the phonograph. This was actually the first one ever made in 1860s France by an inventor named Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville, and perhaps the voice behind the song might be the inventor's little girl. This was recorded WAY before the Civil War, and to be honest, they could've used the chance to record Lincoln's voice. But then again, it is a prototype. After all, inventions, even if they are of low-quality, has got to start somewhere, right?BTW, i'm starting to become offended by the words "ancient" and "primitive" when it comes to inventions and technology, no matter how long ago they were. If I wanted ancient, I would've gone back to the Medieval Middle Ages. If I wanted primitive, I would've gone back to the Prehistoric Stone Ages. I mean, come on people! It's like a neverending trend to look down on past technology that started things off!
We wouldn't have radio if it wasn't for that scratchy-but-innovative recording! Perhaps someday in the future there might be a space-based intergalactic version of the...
| | If Time Travel Really Was Possible...Would You Really Want To??? | | I just finished watching the 2002 version of The Time Machine based of course on the book by H.G. Wells. This isn't of course the first version movie of his book. I had loved both the earlier and newer versions of both movies.Being the science geek all my life I can't help wondering...like wow, wouldn't it be great, if time travel really was possible. We could go back into the past to our favorite times in history and get a real perspective of what life was really like, say in Ancient Egypt, Greece, Roman, Medieval, or renaissance times. We could experience first hand the Revolutionary times of a young American or the Civil War times (periods of history by the way I've always been fascinated by). Or maybe you would like to travel to the future...how is our Earth say in the year 2136?..Is there an Earth? Or have we blown ourselves to smithereens due to petty hatreds due to race, religion and so forth?...Is the human species still here?..how much have we changed..are we are a more loving, caring, compassionate species? Does war still exist? The petty intolerances and hatreds...do they still exist? Or have we finally come to an... | |
| | Renowned Communist Endorses Barack Obama | | Judicial Watch BlogThis week Barack Obama got a second presidential endorsement from a world renowned communist, who assures that the Illinois senator is a spokesman for millions of Central American and Mexican citizens who migrate to the U.S.Nicaraguan leader Daniel Ortega, the head of the Marxist Sandinista Liberation Front, says Obama’s presidential bid is a “revolutionary” phenomenon in the United States because he will bring great change that will offer justice and equality toward all. In other words, socialism and a redistribution of wealth.Ortega led the Soviet-backed Sandinista movement that presented a communist threat to the entire region in the late 1970s. His Marxist troops fought a long and bloody civil war against the U.S.-backed Contras and Ortega became head of the ruling junta in the leftist regime until 1990. He returned to office last year and top U.S. officials have labeled him a hoodlum. The Nicaraguan leader is the second prominent Latin American communist to publicly back Obama for president. Last August the world’s longest ruling dictator, Cuba’s Fidel Castro, endorsed an Obama-Hillary Clinton ticket as... | |
| | What about terrorism groups IN America | | We are currently fighting a war dealing with terrorism. Now don't get me wrong, we need to protect our land, but what about the other extremist groups that have existed in the United States for years? The KKK, Skin Heads and so on.
Do you believe these extremist groups can get violent enough where they could possibly start another civil war in America or do you think they are not anything to be worried about?
| | If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why? | | I was going through my book and music collections as I was dusting the other day (I know. I'm a dork. I dust) and I noticed so many names of people I really liked and I wondered what it'd be like to meet them and talk to them. If you've looked at any of my other posts, I'm obviously a big Beatles fan so I would definitely want to meet John Lennon. The Civil War was such an important part of American history, I'd like to meet Abraham Lincoln and find out what he really thought about abolishing slavery, the union and the Confederacy. I have such a crush on a certain person I saw in a movie the other day that I wouldn't mind meeting;) Then I think about my own family and its history. I'd love to meet my ancestors. Learn a little more about my family line. But then I think about my great grandparents. I've never met any of them and it would mean so much to understand them. It would help me understand my parents and grandparents a little better. At least I think it would. Sigh. Who would you meet and why? | |
